Dumfries and Galloway is a relatively undiscovered
corner of southern Scotland yet is just an hour’s drive from the M6 motorway at Carlisle. The scenery ranges from coastal
plains and craggy cliffs to upland moorland with more than a hint of wilderness.
Numerous small villages are dotted about the countryside, each with its own individual charm.
The country town of Kirkcudbright is well known in art circles
for its historical connections with the 'Glasgow Boys' and Castle Douglas, which is 15 minutes drive
away, is Scotland’s National Food Town.
During the spring and summer many local gardens open under the 'Scotland Garden Scheme'. Also within the
area are:
- Six golf courses within 10 miles
- The Mersehead RSPB Reserve
- Salmon & trout fishing on the river Urr and nearby lochs
- A sailing centre in nearby Kippford
- Excellent walking and cycling opportunities
- Several nearby sandy beaches
The Galloway
Forest Park is 45 minutes away and Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town is 50 minutes drive
away.
Dumfries, 25 minutes drive from
Colvend has a number of places of interest to visit including the Camera Obscura and Museum.
